Vets Journey Home is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting veterans by offering FREE weekend retreats to any veteran who has ever served our country - whether on active duty, in the Reserves, or in the National Guard
or during peace time or during conflict
Through their military service, veterans have important stories to tell - stories of adventure, pain, fear, courage, loss, camaraderie and more - but some of these stories are too difficult to share with family and friends. Consequently, many veterans lock up their authentic stories deep inside affecting their relationships with family and friends.
Some of the stories could be either combat and non-combat experiences which have resulted in PTSI (Post-Traumatic Stress Injury), others include MSA (Military Sexual Assault), or emotional guilt. Some veterans, like Vietnam-era veterans have never been honored or appreciated for their service. Other veterans, who have been welcomed home as heroes, find it difficult to talk of moments of doubt, or their regrets or fears. Survivor’s guilt haunts many. For some, thoughts of “I didn’t do enough” or
“I could have done better” are too shameful to share.
Whatever the story, Vets Journey Home retreats offer veterans a safe place to share their stories with other veterans and compassionate civilians who are willing to listen to their stories without judgment. As a result of sharing their stories, veterans begin to heal their hearts and bring peace to their souls.
